Carbon Neutrality : What is it and how does Circular Bodies achieve it?

At Circular Bodies we ship our products using carbon neutral shipping. Here is all you need to know about it.

What is carbon neutral shipping?

Carbon neutral shipping is a bit of a controversial, yet simple, process to understand. There is a lot of carbon dioxide (CO2) that gets released into the atmosphere from the moment you purchase your items online to the time you receive your order on your doorstep. Just surfing the internet uses a great deal of CO2, then of course, the transportation is where CO2 and other greenhouse gases are emitted. The CO2 gets burned through transportation fuel. Too much carbon dioxide (CO2) is NOT good for the earth. It creates a greenhouse effect where the sun’s heat gets trapped in the atmosphere causing the earth and oceans to warm. An excessive amount of CO2 also contributes to air pollution, a.k.a smog and the list can go on.

With carbon neutral shipping, whatever CO2 gets released is then offset with any action that has the goal of reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, attempting to compensate for the environmental issues caused by the release of those emissions .

Circular Bodies and Carbon Neutral Shipping

Climate change is real and present, so Circular Bodies is dedicated to minimizing our carbon footprint with the help of our shipping operations partner. We understand carbon neutral shipping is not a solution, which is why we commit to doing the best in sustainability in all areas of our business.

We believe in doing the best we can and always seek out improvements. For now, we are proud to partner with businesses and communities that do the same and strive to do the best possible to take care of our planet.

This is my Circular Bodies package, which comes wrapped in 100% biodegradable and recyclable materials, an example of how we apply sustainability in all areas of our operation.

Controversy

While Carbon Neutrality is a great mechanism found to compensate for CO2 release, especially in industrial settings, we want to be completely transparent with you and point out that carbon neutral shipping does have its fair share of issues. For one, the problem of polluting the earth is not solved by offset. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is still being released into the atmosphere when shipping products, and these are actions that try to compensate, but don’t necessarily help ‘undo the damage.’ But can we prevent the release of CO2 in the first place?? This is the question and concern of many, and one of the ways to alleviate it is finding local suppliers and farmers (link to sourcing article - Marion’s article), minimizing the distance our ingredients (link ingredient sustainability post - Marion’s article) take to get to us, and therefore, releasing less CO2 into the atmosphere.

Beyond Carbon Neutral Shipping

To further lower Circular Bodies carbon footprint (and yours!) all of the boxes used to ship and receive our handcrafted products are made from 100% recycled paper and so are the fillings! We also make a conscious effort to ship everything we make free from plastic, better for the planet’s health and in turn your health! (link to packaging article)
